Deadline: Arts Scholarship @ Campbell House Galleries

The Arts Council of Moore County’s Barnes-Travis Arts Scholarship was established in 2000 with the goal to provide support to Moore County middle and high school students with a demonstrated talent and interest in the arts. The scholarship may be used for such items as fees for a music or art camp, studying dance at a local dance company, or taking private lessons with an art or music teacher. [NOTE: These scholarships may NOT be used to fund college attendance.]

The scholarship program is named for Harry Barnes and Vaud Ancil Travis, III, two long-time and strong supporters of the Arts Council of Moore County and the arts throughout Moore County. Additional funds have been created in someone’s honor or memory. These funds include:

  • Barnes-Travis Arts Scholarship – This scholarship is awarded to applicants wishing to pursue their interest in any arts genre.
  • Carol Lawson Rouhier Visual Arts Scholarship – Awarded in memory of Moore County artist and longtime Arts Council member, Carol Lawson Rouhier, this scholarship is awarded to applicants wishing to pursue their interest in the visual arts.
  • Laine Lea Classical Ballet Scholarship – Awarded in honor of Laine Lea, this scholarship is awarded to applicants who reside in Moore County and wish to study classical ballet.

Since the Barnes-Travis Arts Scholarship’s inception, the Arts Council has awarded 150 scholarships and almost $54,000 to middle and high school students pursuing their interest in the arts.
