Jane Durden grew up in Wilmington, NC and has been passionate about the creative arts since childhood; in particular, they fell in love with collage and ceramics as a teenager. Jane graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art History with a concentration in Ceramics. They’re an interdisciplinary visual artist who creates mixed media work that manifests from different artistic modes such as collage, printmaking, painting, and culminates into heavily layered 2D and/or 3D objects. Jane’s body of work is process oriented, heavily ritualized, and implements the creative forces associated with the divine. Their practice combines the powers of creation and destruction, to explore magic, mysticism, identity, and death.

Jane has professional experience in the fine arts from their internship as an artist assistant at Stephen Wilson Studio. They also have teaching experience from their time managing Paint-N-Play, a paint your own pottery studio. In addition, Jane has partnered with the Cameron Art Museum’s youth program where they offer their face painting services for public events! Jane is looking forward to sharing their art and art history knowledge through ArtistYear as an ArtistYear AmeriCorps Resident Teaching Artist in The Sandhills of North Carolina!
