Alexis Lawson is originally from Cleveland, Ohio and later moved to Charlotte, NC; she has had a passion for writing since she was in middle school. Her work and interest have focused on fiction prose and poetry, in the genre of romance. Alexis graduated from Appalachian State University with a bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in creative writing and a minor in criminology. She is an artist who uses writing to openly express emotions that most people feel, but seldom have the words to convey. She is actively writing through her blog and recently published her first book! She enjoys writing fiction through the black voice, incorporating her culture into narratives that often otherwise we do not see black representation in.
Alexis also has experience in photography, social media marketing, as well as youth mentorship through different service projects within her sorority and connections made with the youth, while attending Appalachian State University. She was also an intern for Queen V, where she was responsible for creating blog content regarding feminine wellness and creating social media content for promotion. She is very passionate about making arts more accessible to the youth no matter their background and experience. Alexis is looking forward to introducing a new sense of freedom and transparency through the young minds by way of writing through ArtistYear as an ArtistYear AmeriCorps Fellow in Moore County, North Carolina!
