1. LUCAS MEACHEM | Baritone

American baritone, LUCAS MEACHEM, is an internationally sought-after performer whose compelling lyric baritone voice and dramatic interpretations have led him to the world’s most important operatic stages. Lucas enjoys a busy career at the most important opera houses across the United States and Europe. He is a Union Pines High School graduate and studied music at Appalachian State University, the Eastman School of Music and Yale University before becoming an Adler fellow with the San Francisco Opera. We are excited to welcome Lucas back to his hometown for what will be an incredible concert.

2. CHANTICLEER

Monday, October 2, 2017 | 8 PM | Sunrise Theater

Called “the world’s reigning male chorus” by the New Yorker, the San Francisco based Grammy award-winning ensemble, CHANTICLEER celebrates its 40th season with a stop in Southern Pines. Praised by the San Francisco Chronicle for their “tonal luxuriance and crisply etched clarity,” Chanticleer is known around the world as “an orchestra of voices” for the seamless blend of its 12 male voices ranging from soprano to bass and its original interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz and popular genres, as well as contemporary composition.

3. ESCHER STRING QUARTET

Monday, February 26, 2018 | 8 PM | Sunrise Theater

Adam Barnett-Hart, Violin, Aaron Boyd, Violin, Pierre Lapointe, Viola and Brook Speltz, Cello make up the ESCHER STRING QUARTET, which has received acclaim for its profound musical insight and rare tonal beauty. A former BBC New Generation Artist, the quartet has performed at the BBC Proms at Cadogan Hall and is a regular guest at Wigmore Hall. In its home town of New York, the ensemble serves as Season Artists of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, where last season it not only presented the complete Zemlinsky Quartets Cycle in a concert streamed live from the Rose Studio, but was also one of five quartets chosen to collaborate in a complete presentation of Beethoven’s string quartets.

4. JON NAKAMATSU | Piano

Monday, March 26, 2018 | 8 PM | Sunrise Theater

American pianist JON NAKAMATSU continues to draw unanimous praise as a true aristocrat of the keyboard, whose playing combines elegance, clarity, and electrifying power. A native of California, Jon came to international attention in 1997 when he was named Gold Medalist of the Tenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, the only American to have achieved this distinction since 1981. Jon has performed widely in North and South America, Europe, and the Far East, collaborating with such conductors as James Conlon, Marek Janowski, Raymond Leppard, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, Osmo Vänskä and Hans Vonk. He also performed at a White House concert hosted by President and Mrs. Clinton.
